SUMMER 2021: 39: ASSIGNMENT THIRTY NINE: HIKING GEAR AD FOR OUTDOOR MAGAZINE

DUE APRIL 26, 2022

CLIENT: Startup Company wanting to make a BIG SPLASH with this first ad. They are tapping you to make some creative decisions on how to knock the hiking community collective wool socks off.

YOU are the creative lead for this small company. They are easy to work with and are game for something a bit out of the box. They want to show the hiking world just how cool their new product is.

The products can run from walking sticks to boots, climbing pitons to trail maps. Whatever you can get your hands on the easiest works for me.

IMPORTANT TO SHOW:

  1. What the item is made from. The materials used should be seen very well.
  2. What makes it better than the competition.
  3. Richness of detail (if it is part of your item).
  4. How it may be used.
  5. Relative size. Make sure we can tell how big, small, heavy, light, or whatever it is that is size-related.

They have a design template from the magazine designer and they are working with a copywriter. But for now, this is what the image is going to look like as a finished ad.

If you choose a dark background, use the layer for Reverse. If you do a light-colored image, use the Light layout.

Use this layout PSD file.

ADDENDUM: ONE 5-8 SECOND VIDEO CLIP.

You can do this with a slow crawl, a slide to the side, slow motion, movement in the still shot… whatever you want.

Process the clip in DaVinci Resolve, remove the audio, and color grade the clip. This should accompany the still shot on the same or similar set. The still shot and the video clip should go together nicely.

It is very important to notice how well the copy reads against the background. You must make an image that will allow your copy to read really well against whatever the subject is.
