As we discussed in the class last week, here are two fresh new assignments for any of you who want to work on building your portfolio but do not want to work on the assignments in the regular class. You may do either, you are not assigned to do both.
This assignment is due November 7, and up to four images are being requested.
STILL LIFE ASSIGNMENT:
Bottles. Without labels.
Wine bottles, perfume bottles, drink bottles… glass or plastic. The point is to use the bottles as a pallet for your creativity. The bottles may be fancy and ornate or mundane – your call. The images must be amazing, though.
Edges.
Reflections.
Composition.
Design.
Close up.
Far away.
Emotional.
Static.
Make them your shots in YOUR style and as a group make them cohesive.
PEOPLE / PORTRAIT ASSIGNMENT
This should be a long form study of a subject. That means more than one shot, more than one ‘wardrobe change’, and more than one location. Think editorial portrait for a magazine like Wired, or Esquire, or Forbes, or The Atlantic. The subject and location should reflect a point of view, a ‘policy’, or give us glimpses into their personality / job / career.
Use location, wardrobe and ‘approach’ to present a long form portrait of the subject. This assignment is asking for four images of the subject – at least one of them to be a portrait format (vertical) so it can be used for cover / inside opening page.
Wardrobe.
Lighting.
Angles.
Location.
Colors.
Close up.
Far away.
Unique qualities shown.
Serious versus whimsical.
You have an extended pallet, now use every bit of it for this important editorial assignment.
