Candy Canes.
Shooting something everyone knows, and something that has been shot a gazillion times before is a rather challenging proposition. Think of this as a test of your creative and thinking skills. This is NOT a technical shoot, rather a narrative approach. The “story” of the candy cane depends on how you choose to shoot it.
You may decide to shoot something very minimalistic… a candy cane or three hanging against a black background, or a single candy cane in a macro setting. Perhaps you will decide to make it accompanying a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows and props to tell the story of the candy in a setting.
Holiday Ornamentals
From a wreathe to a single glass ornament, the idea is to present something that brings us texture, shape, and dimension. Try very minimal approaches, or try a highly-propped image that adds some nostalgia to the shot.
Just be sure we see a mood or style within the shot. Is it a light-hearted image or a visually commercial shoot as would be seen in an advertisement. Story or subject – subject or story? Or both.
All approaches are welcome, and the image can be portrait or landscape, color or B&W. You have complete control over your creativity, so let it shine!
