“Roots of Power”
Image Due May 27, 2017
It means many things to a lot of people. From politics to personal to some sort of allegory for anything they like or dislike.
For us it means… Gardening.
Yep… gardening. The choice of truly powerful people.
For us, the “roots of power” is a garden shot in your style. It is to be used for a large POP (Point of Purchase) display for gardening tools. The final image they need is 36 x 24. And it must be vertical to fit above the rack of gardening tools. There will be three boxes at the bottom third to hold rack brochures and the AD has requested that the position of the type remain unchanged. (see layout).
The assignment is to shoot for a Point of Purchase Display with very exact specifications:
Layout is EXACT – you cannot change anything on it at all. You MUST shoot to the layout perfectly.
What is a Point of Purchase? It is something that is placed in stores next to where the item is being purchased. These are so popular that there are design agencies who specialize in them.
Here are a few examples:
The image can be of three varieties:
1. An absolutely astounding garden. And please be discerning with this. It has to be amazing. And it has to have a person in the shot to offset the idea of the ‘power’ as being the person behind the garden. A garden portrait with the garden as the most important part of the image.
2. Gardening Tools in a still life scene. Not a boring product shot, make it lovely with props and styling. And it MUST contain a root of some sort as the hero. Any kind of root that you can get from Home Depot or the like. For our purposes, it can also be a bulb.
3. A gardener… from mild to wild. Can you see this as a fashion shot? I can. Could it be a humorous play with two “character actors”? Absolutely. Could it be mysterious, fun, whimsical, serious? Yes… all of those. And hopefully there is either a gardening implement or a root in the shot… we have to SELL this idea.
Most importantly it must be YOURS.
This image is going to be large, so it can have some lovely details in it, but also because it is large it cannot be too “busy”. This is a ‘walk a fine line’ assignment.
Here are two videos for you to review.
Shooting to a very specific layout has its challenges:
Here is a video that will show you how to use the template provided:
Download Layout here. 3×2 Relationship: Portrait
If you need a PNG for Lightroom.
REMEMBER, if you do not have the font, ADAM, you should use the Rasterized layer. That means they are no longer fonts, but turned into a graphic. However, ADAM is a nice font. So here is the link for downloading it. Enjoy.
Some pages for ideas:
The link for the ADAM font doesn’t seem to have a download option for that font. Anyone found a safe sight from which to download the ADAM font?
It is there Adam, but a very small link.
Tnx. I looked again and saw it this time, right between the last ADAM image and one of the several Google “Download” Ads.
