ASSIGNMENT: "THE 'MYTHS' OF MONEY"

DUE SEPTEMBER 15

Well, currency to be exact.

The job at hand is to create a photograph for a brochure cover. for a financial institution.

The client is a financial services company. They help people take the mystery out of financial planning.

The point of this brochure is to show some new plans they have for money management, and how that new strategy can benefit the consumer.

The brochure is a wide format landscape. Completed size will be 12×9… a definitely unique size. Your finished image should fit that parameter as well. Use a guide to help you see the size/layout.

The title they are considering for the brochure is “Money. The Myth and the Reality”

Shots they have in mind:

  1. Black and white, featuring coins… no paper money to be shown at all. Stacks of coins to show growth in savings or investments. This image should look like a graph or a chart showing an upward growing ‘line’. Black and White could also be a sepia or monochromatic treatment, but the AD would want it to be spectacular if it is in anything other than black and white. BTW, it will be printed in 6 Color black and white, so the reproduction will be gloriously detailed and with a full tonal range – NOT your average black ink on white paper. (A: The simpler solution)

  2. Currency from all over the world… paper and coins together. This would be more of a still life made to look like a desk near a window, with light streaming in. To create this image, you will have to do some major set work. Desk, pens, desk lamp, streaming light, assorted accounting tools… in other words, if this is the option you choose, it must be detailed and rich in textures, color, and detail. The light will be the most powerful part and should come from the upper right corner. (B: the more complex solution.)

Choose one of the solutions above… for those of you who are a bit more advanced, try the desk still life shot.

The brochure is a distinguishable size, as the designer wants the entire presentation
It will be a full 12 x 9 horizontal piece and will be printed 6 color.

(What that means is that along with the standard CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black) the press will have two additional colors to bring a wider color range to the image. Perhaps we add a deep blue to help create more of a blue than the usual mix of black and cyan. And a vibrant, fire engine red that helps widen the reds that are possible with magenta and yellow. Six color printing offers a very wide and deep assortment of colors.)

For those of you wish to put your work into a layout template, use this one and do not change or move the type… SHOOT to layout. This is an option, and not required.

You have permission to change the opacity of the type, but not to move it or change it in any way.
