FLASH ASSIGNMENT ONE: THE UTILITY OF A GOOD KNIFE

DUE OCTOBER 23. ONE SHOT ONLY

A local magazine needs a shot (full page) of a utility or pocket knife to go with an article on an increase of women carrying utility knives for convenience.

NOTE: This is not an article on self-defense, or the use of knives as weapons, but rather on utility.

From specialized knives to ‘all-in’on” types of pocket knives, more women are being able to fix a window, cut open a box, or feel confident in other situations due to the availabilty of the utility knife.

Yes, you can use a person.
Yes, it can be a still life.

Portrait, single page full page.

Prefer not to have dark colors or any sort of ‘mystery’ attached to the image.

“Light, open, accessible” is how the photo editor describes it.

“We have to be very careful in how we show and present the knife. The article is one on how the knives are used in a positive, and acceptable manner and we do not want to conflate any violence, or ‘protection’ angle in the image at all”, she said in a note.

The story is being sponsored by a local group of utility knives producers, and they are sensitive to the many ways the discussions can go.

Tricky damned assignment… make it cool.

You do NOT have to do a behind the scenes shot for this one.
